E.J. Harris Commits To KSU;
Morrissette Out At KSU?--(Oct. 22, 1999)
The Manhattan (Kansas) Mercury has confirmed that E.J. Harris (6'-3" Sr. PG) from LA Crenshaw HS, has given a verbal commitment to Kansas State Coach Tom Asbury. Asbury has had the offer on the table for Harris since early last year, but Harris was waiting to see what other offers turned up. While he told the Mercury that he was also being recruited by Miami (Fla.) and Washington State, Kansas State was the only official visit he had scheduled.
Harris told the Mercury's Mark Janssen that he plans to be an ''immediate impact player.'' Harris told Janssen ''With no disrespect to the guards they have now, I just looked at their situation and it seemed like an excellent opportunity to step in and play. They have excellent guards, but I'm not sure if they are true point guards.'' Harris also told Janssen, ''Kansas State just offered the whole package.Their coaching staff seems great, they care about their players, they really push academics and coach Asbury wants all of his players to graduate. Plus, I liked the whole sports atmosphere. I really like how the fans reacted at the football game.''
Harris also gave his own self-assessment to the Kansas newspaper: ''I think I'm a good creator, I pass really well and play good defense. I like to score, but I like getting other people the good shot. I want to get to that next level. I want to play in the NBA. I know some things don't work out, but that's what my dream is.''
Harris plans to major in history at K-State. He averaged 17 ppg and 9 apg last season, shooting 50% from the field and 40% from behind the three point arc.
The Kansas Manhattan Mercury also had this to say about another LA area K-State recruit: "Jason Morrissette, a 6-4 forward from LA's Fairfax High School, visited the K-State campus with Harris two weeks ago, but is no longer on the Wildcat recruiting list."
That assessment conflicts with other published reports that have Morrissette being interested still in the Wildcats, but also taking other visits, including a planned visit this coming weekend to Pepperdine. Guess we'll have to contact Jason to see what's up. . .
