More On Fullove Commitment
From VC Star--(Oct. 14, 1999)

We were busy today up in NorCal on business and checking in with some of the coaches we know up in the area, so we didn't get a chance to talk as we had planned with Branduinn Fullove to find out more about how he made his decision to give a verbal to Coach Bob Williams at UC Santa Barbara.  But then we checked over at the Ventura County Star (after being prompted by one of our readers on the message board) and we found this article, by Ventura County Star sportswriter Loren Ledin.  There's not a lot that's new in the article, but it's still news:

Simi High's Fullove Commit's To Santa Barbara

Branduinn Fullove, one of the key cogs on Simi Valley High's powerhouse boys' basketball team, said Wednesday he has committed to playing collegiately at UC Santa Barbara.  "The coaching staff is great, the players made me feel welcome," said Fullove, a 6-foot-5 senior guard. "The atmosphere, the environment felt very warm to be. I fell in love with the place."

Fullove will enter the 1999-2000 season as a four-year starter. The versatile performer averaged 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists as a junior. In racking up 497 points, he shot 55.7 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line.  He also averaged 17.2 points as a sophomore and 16.2 points as a freshman.

"It's a big relief," he said of making his choice. "The letters and all the attention is great, but after a while it really cuts into your time."  With Fullove in the lineup a year ago, Simi Valley finished 12-0 in the Marmonte League, 28-3 overall and reached the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division I-A playoffs before losing to eventual state champion Mater Dei. Simi Valley advanced to the semifinals of the I-AA playoffs in Fullove's sophomore season.   Fullove's commitment marks the second consecutive year that UCSB has landed top prospects from Ventura County. Last season's Santa Clara High star duo of guards B.J. Ward and Nick Jones each are attending Santa Barbara this fall.
