UCLA's Matt Barnes Reportedly Declared
Ineligible This Quarter--(Oct. 7, 1999)

The Daily News today carried a small box story on the front left column of the sports page, reporting that Matt Barnes (6'-6" So. SG/SF) of UCLA has been declared academically ineligible, at least until this next quarter's grades are tallied.  According to the small story, he will be ineligible to practice with the team and will miss the first four games of the season, but could return as early as December. 

We haven't been able to get any other confirmation of this yet, but hopefully we'll have some additional information on it today when we get back from the LA Athletic Club's College Coaches' Preview Luncheon, and we should also have Coach Lavin's take on what it will mean for the team.
