Christian Aurand Officially Named
Head Coach At Simi Valley--(Oct. 21, 1999)

We're running a little bit behind in our work, because sometimes the real world and "real" work intrudes. . . but better late than never we always say.  Yesterday's LA Times and Daily News editions both confirmed what we had known about for a short time, but we couldn't say anything until it was officially announced.

Evidently that happened on Tuesday when Simi Valley HS announced that Christian Aurand, Simi Valley HS'  junior varsity boys' coach since 1995 has been named to succeed Dean Bradshaw as the boys' varsity head coach.   Bradshaw resigned last month for personal reasons.

Aurand is also a graduate of Simi Valley (class of '85), and he played for Bradshaw on the jv in 1983.  He's been affiliated with the school's basketball programs since 1991, he was the sophomore coach in 1993-95, and a varsity assistant from 1991-1993.  He also coached the Simi Valley boys' varsity cross-country team for two years, from 1997-98.

The Times story quoted Dean Bradshaw as saying "I think it was a no-brainer.  He's the best person for the job. He's played in the program, he's coached in the program. I'm ecstatic."

Now we'll just have to find the time to hook up with Coach Aurand to finish our season preview and profile of the 1999-2000 Simi Valley Pioneers.

Stay tuned.
