More Info On UCLA's
Matt Barnes--(Oct. 7, 1999)
We just checked over at the Official UCLA Men's basketball website, and they have this official press release issued by the Bruin basketball office concerning the Matt Barnes' situation:
Sophomore will miss early-season contests.
Oct. 6, 1999
UCLA sophomore forward Matt Barnes has been declared academically ineligible for the current fall quarter. He will miss at least four regular-season games that take place during the fall quarter.
Barnes, a 6-7, 229-pounder, is from Citrus Heights and attended Del Campo HS. Fall quarter started on Sept. 30 with final exams scheduled between Dec. 13-17. During that time, he will be allowed to practice with the Bruins and he can participate in UCLAs Basketball Preview Day, an intrasquad game on Sat., Nov. 6 in Pauley Pavilion. But Barnes cannot play in UCLAs exhibition or regular-season games during the fall quarter.
At the conclusion of Fall Quarter final exams, Barnes academic status will be re-evaluated. If Barnes is eligible after fall quarter, he could play in some (or all) of UCLAs eight games between fall and winter quarter (depending on when his eligibility is restored). Winter quarter starts on Jan. 10.
As a freshman in 1998-99, Barnes appeared in 30 of UCLAs 31 games, started on eight occasions and averaged 13.1 minutes, 3.9 points and 2.9 rebounds.
