Double Pump California All-Stars: The South
(Er, We Mean UCLA) Rises Again--(Oct. 30, 1998)

All right, by now you're probably tired of hearing that the Double Pump California All-Stars teams, all four of them, feature   college and professional players who will give the college teams a workout during the preseason exhibition period.

But then the Double Pump California "South All-Stars" is really unlike any of the other Double Pump teams.  This one could be called "UCLA Revisited,"  and it will feature three players from UCLA, two from the NCAA championship team, which is only fitting, because they open up against their former coach, Jim Harrick at Rhode Island this coming Monday.

The 1998 Double Pump California "South All-Stars" will feature 6'-5" Kris Johnson,  6'-11"  Jelani McCoy, and 6'-6" Charles O'Bannon. The team is coached by Phil Bryant, and Dana Pump will assist.  And don't worry, you'll get to see this team in action here in SoCal when they take on Loyola Marymount on Thursday, November 12 at LMU.

The California South All-Stars, which is considered the top team among the four, at least it looks that way to us, will feature:

Sonny Benjamin (6'-7" Oregon State)
Damion Dantzler (6'-8" Louisville)
BJ Flynn (6'-2" Louisville)
Carl Ray Harris (6'-2" Fresno State)
Kris Johnson (6'-5" UCLA)
Jelani McCoy (6'-11" UCLA)
Mike Moten (6'-9" Rhode Island)
Charles O'Bannon (6'-6" UCLA)
Brad Quinet (6'-2" San Jose State)
Jason Wright (6'-2" New Orleans)

These guys have a schedule that would make many top 10 college teams run for cover, and in a span of 10 days, they will play 8 NCAA tournament teams from last year, including the National Champion Kentucky Wildcats. We've noted the adidas Blue Ribbon Yearbook Preseason standing number next to each of these teams below:

Monday November 2 No. 35 University of Rhode Island
Tuesday November 3 No. 4 University of Kentucky
Wednesday November 4 Vanderbilt
Thursday November 5 University of Tennessee
Friday November 6 Day Off
Saturday November 7 No. 23 University of Kansas
Sunday November 8 University of Colorado
Monday November 9 Day Off
Tuesday November 10 No. 18 Syracuse
Wednesday November 11 No. 5 University of Maryland
Thursday November 12 Loyola Marymount

If you get the chance to get over to LMU a week from Thursday, don't miss this great traveling team.
