Double Pump California Midwest All-Stars
Take On CSUN Sunday--(Oct. 30, 1998)

David and Dana Pump, the founders of Double Pump, Inc., do a lot more than just run the camps, clinics and tournaments for high school and younger players. In addition to the West Coast All-Stars Camps, Dana Pump Camps, and tournaments and shootouts, they  also organize and coach teams of college and professional players on the college preseason circuit.  This year, there will be four Double Pump California All-Stars teams: The California Midwest All-Stars coached by David Pump and Jody Garner; the California West All-Stars, coached by John Dunn; the California South All-Stars, coached by Phil Bryant and Dana Pump; and the California East All-Stars, coached by former Northridge head coach, Pete Cassidy.

This weekend, the California Mid-West All-Stars will get their first start against Cal State Northridge, led by high-profile transfer Rico Harris, and returning players Greg Minor, Carl Holmes and Derrick Higgins.   Northridge also features redshirt freshman Markus Carr and junior transfer Jason Crowe, sophomore Jamar Welsh, and other returning players Larry Beard, Brian Heinle, Jeffrey Parris, Dan Reed and Hewitt Rolle.

The California Midwest All-Stars, will feature:

Chivo Anderson (6'-6" University of Portland)
David Crouse (7'-0" USC)
Chris Dade (6'-4" CSU Fullerton)
Jerry Gee (6'-8" Illinois)
Ken Hotopp (6'-10" LMU)
Robin Kirksey (6'-6"  LMU)
Mike Lipinski (6'-3" Northern Illiniois)
Charles Melvin (6'-10" Colorado)
Marmet Williams (6'-5" San Jose State)
Jim Williamson (5'-10" LMU)

While the LA Times reported that the Midwest All-Stars would include guard Brooklyn McLinn, a former Northridge player, and recent Loyola Marymount product Ime Oduok, neither of them were on the official rosters we got from Double Pump this afternoon.

The Matadors will have had only two weeks of practice, but coach Bobby Braswell wants to see what the level the Matadors are capable of playing.  "All we want to do is find out where we are as a team so that we can go back to practice and have a clear idea of what we need to work on," he told the LA Times in an interview yesterday.  Northridge doesn't play its second exhibition until Nov. 10. If you're interested in attending, the game begins at 4 p.m. in the Northridge gym.

The Midwest All Stars have a pretty impressive travel schedule. Here's where they're going:
