Travon Bryant Recruiting
Update: Mr. MVP--(Sept. 27, 1999)
Travon Bryant (6'-8" Sr. PF) from Long Beach Jordan attended the Midnight Madness event, a huge top 100-type exhibition game held at Cherry Hills East High School over the weekend. There were a lot of top recruits in attendance including several from SoCal and the West Coast, or at least former natives in addition to Travon. Julian Sensely (6'-9" Jr. PF) and Solomon "Chili" Brown (6'-2" Jr. PG/SG) who are both attending prep school on the east coast, were also there. We spoke with Travon on the phone earlier in the day on Sunday just after his return, and then we bumped into him again later in the day at the Championship game of the Double Pump Fall Premier Tournament.
Travon was named MVP of the event, and he scored 29 points in the game, and not that he needed to, impressed a lot of people. Upon his return on Sunday morning, Travon had a second in-home visit with Kansas head coach Roy Williams and one of his assistants. We asked Travon about it but he was, perhaps intentionally, a big vague. " I don't think it really means anything that I had a second visit with coach Williams. I've enjoyed both visits, and I don't have any announcements to make at this time." Of course the fact that Travon was also wearing a Kansas hat and shirt at the Pump tourney may also mean "nothing" and that's why we were joking around with Tra about whether he had any "announcements" to make. He told us though, "When I have an announcement to make, you'll know."
Coach Williams and his assistant were also seen at the Double Pump tournament, but about an hour before Travon showed up; they were there just briefly before their flight home which was at around 6:00 p.m., checking out what there was of the juniors and sophs to see in the waning moments of the open-evaluation period which ended yesterday.
We would expect that Travon will take several official visits before committing, and thus we would not expect him to commit early or to sign a NLOI during the early signing period, but then we've been wrong before about this kind of stuff, and to be completely fair, Travon didn't indicate one way or the other yesterday, so we're just guessing. . . but then that's kind of what makes this recruiting stuff fun.
