Rockfish Fall Workout Saturday
At LA Dorsey High--(Sept. 16, 1999)

Last week we posted the open workout schedule for the Rockfish, which was supposed to take place at Hollywood High (for returning and new players, open to anyone who wants to workout). But there was a little problem with the gym at Hollywood (some kind of a small fire), and the result was the workout got cancelled. Most people found out in time before they made the trip, but some didn't and to them apologies have already been extended.

This weekend, Rockfish will indeed be working out, instead of taking teams to the adidas EBO-EA Sports 3rd Annual Sweet 16 up in Fresno. The local teams appearing at that one will be Belmont Shore, The Hood, and Compton Centennial; Rockfish and Pump will not be making the trip, and neither will BWBA. We're still not sure whether we'll be able to make it up to Fresno, but if we do, we'll certainly have reports from up there at some point. If not, we'll have to rely on others.

As for Rockfish, we're not making any guarantees about the open workout. Last weekend, we had no idea it was cancelled at the last minute. But this time they swear the gym will be open, just not at Hollywood High. In fact, if there's a fire, flood or some other natural disaster which prevents the workout, you know who to blame: Dave Benezra and Mark Mayemura, because it will undoubtedly be their fault. Really.

Here's the message that Rockfish posted on the message board today concerning the workout schedule for Saturday:

The Los Angeles Rockfish will be working out this Saturday, September 18, at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles from 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

As we posted earlier in this forum, this workout will be open to any high school players (preferably high school underclassmen) who are interested in playing for the Rockfish. Dorsey HS is located at 3537 Farmdale Avenue (Los Angeles, CA 90016 for those using MS or Yahoo map finders)... on the corner of Farmdale & Rodeo Road... Farmdale is located between Crenshaw (on the east) and La Brea (on the west). The school is located south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway... go southbound from either the Crenshaw or the La Brea offramps.

Enter the school through the northernmost driveway off of Farmdale... drive down the driveway about 150 yards and turn left into the school, between two rows of buildings... the gym is a half-circle shaped building... find parking clear of the driveway... if you're coming, get there early 1:15 and bring a good attitude.
