1st Annual Rim Rattler Holiday
Hoops Invitational Set--(Sept. 28, 1999)

It's never too late to make your plans for December tournaments.  In the next few days and weeks, you'll be reading about a lot of high school tournaments, most of which will begin in or around late November and continuing through the New Years weekend (and just so we're clear about this, the year 2000 is NOT the start of the new millenium. . . unless you subscribe to the view that there was a year "0". . . ).  This year there's a new entrant into the holiday tournament lineup, the 1st Annual Rim Rattler Holiday Hoops Invitational which is set for December 20-23 up at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, which is a great place to spend a couple of days in the middle of winter.

We were told about this new tournament by the organizers via fax a couple of months ago, in the middle of summer, and it's always seemed too early to be talking about December.  But since we're on the verge of the beginning of the high school season, we've started posting the first of many high school previews, and more importantly, someone posted the details on the message forum, thus saving us the time of typing in a lot of the information ourselves, we decided to post it here as well.  So here's what we know:  The top four seeds are:

1. Miami Senior (Miami, Florida): after spending a year on probation the Stings are back and loaded with talent.
2. Compton Centennial: Omar Weaver and company lead this talented crew.
3. Miami Christian (Miami, Florida): All five starters rank in the top 15 in the state of Florida. Teams top players are from the Dominican Republic.
4. St. Joseph's, Notre Dame (Alameda, CA): Coach Gordy Johnson leads this always talented squad.

The remaining teams in the tournament (in no particular order):
Inglewood
Mayfair
Chaminade
The Bishop's School
Edison (Fresno)
Calvary Temple (Modesto)
Richmond
Foothill (Bakersfield)
Arroyo Grande
Eastlake
East Bakersfield
Mission Prep

If you have any questions about the tournament call (805) 541-4377. The organizers are promising more information about the teams and the event in the weeks ahead.  Stay tuned.
