Mike Malloy Makes WSU Team--(Sept. 9, 1999)
Mike Malloy (6'-3" Fr. SG), a June graduate of University of San Diego High School, officially made the roster of the Washington State Cougars, according to an official press release issued by Washington State yesterday. The release is at the WSU Official Athletics website, but for those in a hurry, we've excerpted the portions of the press release which relate only to Mike Malloy (a good deal of the release also deals with the transfer to WSU of John "J." Locklier (6'-10" Jr. C) who will redshirt, but still have two years of eligibility). Here's the stuff relating to Mike:

USD High Star Malloy Also Joins Team

Malloy comes to WSU as an invited walk-on from one of the top prep programs in the country, University of San Diego High. He was rated among the top 25 juniors on the West Coast two years ago and turned down full ride scholarships to San Diego State, Loyola Marymount and Northern Arizona in order to play for the Cougars. Malloy averaged 20.9 points, eight assists and seven rebounds per game last season for USDH. He was a first team all-CIF and all-league selection and played in the Data California All-Star game. "Mike is a young man who loves Washington State basketball and he passed up some up other opportunities in order to become part of our program," Graham said. "He brings the right attitude and enthusiasm to help our team be successful."
Malloy joins fellow SoCal players Milton Riley (6'-8" Fr. PF), who used a redshirt last season but will play this year, and Marcus Moore (6'-5" Sr. PG) from Compton Dominguez who signed with Washington State when Marquis Poole (6'-2" Fr. PG) came up ineligible. Interestingly, if you check the official WSU site, Poole is still listed as being on the roster, and there's no mention made of Moore or Malloy. . . at least not yet.
