LA City Section Launches
New Website--(Sept. 30, 1999)
We just found out from Jeff Halpern, associate commissioner of the LA City Section CIF office, that the Los Angeles Section, one of the few remaining participants in the statewide California Interscholastic Federation, has just joined the 20th century, and not a moment too soon, because the 20th century is just about to end in 92 days.
Most of the other CIF sections (San Diego, North Coast, Sac-Joaquin, Northern, Central Coast) have had websites for quite a while, but for the past few years, LA has sort of lagged behind, and we're not surprised given how complicated most things are in the LAUSD; heck, they've already spent more than $200 million dollars on a high school that's only half-finished and may never be completed (the Belmont Learning Center), so finishing a website and getting it up and running is a major accomplishment.
But we're pleased to say that among the various CIF section websites, this one is probably the best. It's nicely organized, has tons of useful information, schedules and other great information. Hopefully they'll update it with results on a daily and weekly basis so that we can just link to it during the season, but somehow we don't think that's going to happen.
In any event, the LA CIF site does have some great information, including all the new league alignments, and hopefully they'll be posting up the schedules for the City Section varsity games (boys and girls) as soon as they are finalized, which usually isn't until sometime in late October or early November.
We did manage to get the Frosh-Soph schedules for LA City Section, which we'll also be posting up here shortly. But if you just can't wait to see this site, it's at http://www.cif-la.org. Easy enough to remember. And well worth a visit.
