Andre Hazel Recruiting
Update: Only Two Involved--(Sept. 24, 1999)

hazel1.jpg (3950 bytes)Andre Hazel (6'-0" Sr. PG) from Artesia HS is one of the best points in SoCal and the West Coast.   We know that to be a fact, and he's a coach's dream in terms of running the offense, finding the open men, dishing, driving and penetrating, and if he had a more consistent shot, we have no doubt he'd be getting recruited right now by more high majors.   But as it is, Andre is only being recruited by two schools.

That's right.  Two schools.  Crime of the century.  Major injustice. And unless some others get involved, one of those two will get the steal of the millenium if he signs before other coaches wake up and find out what they're missing.  We had a chance to talk with Andre this afternoon while the rest of his Artesia teammates were working in the gym, and he told us that he's only being recruited right now by Oregon and Nevada-Reno, where he took an official visit last weekend.  "I really liked it there, and they're bringing in a lot of really good players, and will be in the WAC now, so that's a plus," Andre said. "I haven't been to Oregon yet because they're on the quarter-system, but I'll take an official visit there soon."

Andre will not be playing this weekend at the Pump Tournament, but then he and his teammates have played more games this past year-to-date than many NBA teams, and Wayne Merino needs to give his players some time before the season starts in earnest in November.  "I'll just be hanging out this weekend," said Andre.

So coaches: You now know where Andre will be. . . you've all got phones, right?
