"DeShawn"
(The Other Guy) & More--(Sept. 7, 1999)
Deshawn Stevenson (6'-5" Sr. SG/SF) isn't the only top recruit coming out of Fresno's Washington Union High School this year. In fact he isn't even the only "Deshawn" who plays for the Panthers who is being recruited by some major Division I colleges. Deshawn Anderson (6'-2" Sr. SG) has set up home visits with San Diego State, Wyoming, Kansas State, Washington State, and is also being recruited by UMass, SMU, Oregon, and Eastern Carolina. Deshawn is an excellent scorer from inside or out to three and he can step in at just about any of the schools he's set up visits with and be an immediate impact player.
Another player from Washington Union, Jordan Brice (6'-0" Sr. PG/SG) also has home visits set up in the next two weeks with Sacremento State, UC Davis, Eastern Washington, Colgate, UCSB, Eastern Carolina, and possibly Loyola Marymount. Tennessee Tech is also trying to set up a home visit, but nothing has yet been set. Jordan is a very quick, steady point guard, more of a pass-first kind of player who has excellent defensive skills and great lateral quickness. We saw him several times this summer, and really liked his game and would predict that he'll be an excellent low to mid D-I, and certainly can be a starter at the D-II level, and frankly, we'd expect that wherever he winds up, he'll make an impact as a freshman and no doubt be a starter by not later than his sophomore season.
