Our Bad??? Marshall
Doesn't Lose Any--(Sept. 24, 1999)

It seems that someone has been having some fun with us, telling us that DeVerion Mackey (6'-5" Sr. SG/SF) and Jason Sanders (6'-5" Sr. SF) have both decided not to play at Marshall. . . . Deverion because of a reported transfer to Moorpark and Sanders in order to bring his grades up. . . Neither story was apparently correct, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused either of them.

We received another e-mail in response to the information we posted earlier, noting the following:

"Although some of your information is accurate, most of it is inaccurate. Yes we have the new transfers in Doug Gray (6'6" SF), Hassan Moody (5'10") and Harvey Simmons (6'4"SF). As far as Deverion and Jason, both are still enrolled at Marshall and doing excellent with their grades and currently enrolled in the KUMO SAT program.  In addition, Jason or Deverion have not committed to anyone to date."

We'll probably see both Deverion and Jason today at the Pump Fall Premier Tournament (both of them are on the ARC-LA roster, which plays the Tuscon Heat I today at Cal State Dominguez Hills, so we'll ask them and get to the bottom of this.  Both of them are excellent players, but we also should have paused a bit when we saw in the first e-mail that there was a reference to Jason Sanders making a verbal commitment to Long Beach State. . . we don't know if he's being recruited by the 49'er's but a verbal would of course implay that they had made him an offer, and we haven't heard anything of the sort previously. . . Again, we'll get to the bottom of it today when we see them at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

We were also notified that Pasadena Marshall Fundamental HS will be hosting the 1st annual "Rose City Rumble" on Jan. 15, 2000 at Pasadena City College. Games are scheduled to start at 2:00 pm and admission will only be $5.00 for the entire day. The match-ups are as follows:

Game 1: Blair vs Duarte at 2:00
Game 2: St Francis vs Los Angeles at 3:30
Game 3: Pasadena vs Rancho Cucamonga 5:00
Game 4: Muir vs Rialto at 6:30
Game 5: Marshall vs Price at 8:00

Looks good.  See you there.
