More From Gottlieb: Curtis Allen Commits;
Ridnour Narrows List--(Sept. 14, 1999)

Here's some additional information we just received from Bob Gottlieb, who runs the Branch West Basketball Academy and coaches the BWBA travel teams, and with the word from UCLA apparently given to Cedric Bozeman (6'-5" Jr. PG/SG) that UCLA won't recruit any more point guards in the current senior class, points are now dropping like flies. . . well, not to suggest that both of these guys below were on UCLA's radar, but at least one of them was. . . . but no longer, and vice-versa.

First, Bob let us know that Curtis Allen (6'-2" Sr. PG) from Washington's Tacoma Wilson HS,  another of the top point guard prospects on the West Coast, who was very highly recruited by a lot of major programs, has turned down offers from Notre Dame, Clemson, Syracuse and Washington State to commit to the University of Washington.  Curtis average 20 ppg as a junior, and this bast summer played for Friends of Hoop at the adidas Las Vegas Big Time Tournament.  Curtis is a smooth, lightning quick floor general, who has the ability to just blow by opposing players, and he will be a major impact player in the Pac-10, a very good get for Washington.

More directly impacted by the Cedric Bozeman commitment to UCLA was Luke Ridnour (6'-1" Sr. PG) from Blaine H.S. in Blaine, Washington, a small school very close to the Canadian border. Now that he has eliminated UCLA (or vice-versa) he has narrowed his choices to Utah, Gonzaga, Washington and Kentucky, although with the report we also received moments ago that Blake Stepp has committed to Gonzaga, we'd have to ask "why Gonzaga?"

Stay tuned, more news from other points West to come.
