Say No Classic Finals
Today At USC--(Aug. 8, 1999)
The Finals of the Say No Summer Classic College League, featuring some of the best talent in SoCal, will be held today, at 3:00 p.m. at USC's Lyon Center. The game will not be at West LA College, so don't go there. Unless you want to look at a locked up gym.
If you want to see Hank's Big Time Hoopers (roster below) playing against Entertainment Tonight (roster below), then you'll drive over to USC, and follow the crowds to the Lyon Center for some great basketball action.
Yesterday saw the semifinal games in the Say No Classic league, and in the first game Hank's Big Time Hoopers beat Touch Glove, 115-82, and in the second semifinal game of the day, Entertainment Tonight beat the Hollywood Nuggets, 77-72.
We didn't make it to the games yesterday, but according to what we've been able to find out from consulting with BibbyBaby and Rich Meyer of WestCoastHoops, here's what we know:
Hank's BT 115, Touch Glove 82.
For Touch Golve, "Billy Knight had 37, only one three pointer, five rebounds and a pair of assists" according to Rich; according to Bibby Baby, Knight "looked good in the 1st half scoring 19, but didn't get on track in the 2nd half as Granville and company pulled away." Touch Glove's other big scorers were Robbie Jones, a former walk-on at Cal who had 16, and Koko Archibong who scored some, but according to Rich, he "played little in the second and fourth quarters."
Both raved about how well Hank's Big Time performed. Eric Holmes (UAB) had 27 points according to Rich, a lot more according to Bibby Baby: "Eric Holmes. . . had in the high 30's maybe even low 40's. He couldn't be stopped off the dribble and scored inside and outside. He proved today he was probably the 2nd best 1 on 1 player at Say No this summer." Of course, the best one on one player is still Schea Cotton, and on that we agree with BibbyBaby. If you want more info on the games, check each of these sites.
Entertainment Tonight 77, Hollywood Nuggets 72
According to Rich, "the difference in the game was Ruben Douglas."
According to Rich he scored 18 in the first half. On the other side,
according to Rich, Moose Bailey scored 26 points, and apparently the matchup between the
Collins brothers was a lot of fun. BoibbyBaby's assessment of the game had "James
Wright (LB State) vs. Moose Bailey (UCLA)" and "Wright's quickness caused fits
for the Nuggets, but Bailey put in a good effort in the loss. . . Greg Lakey (LMU) matched
up with Jarvis for most of the game. He had a couple of nice plays, but really couldn't
get his shot to fall as he would have liked." Jarvis finished with 12 points.
Here's today's championship lineups (don't expect to see Ray Young, who's listed on Entertainment Tonight, because he hasn't played the whole summer)
