Palm Springs Tournament No. 4:
Los Alamitos Upsets Artesia--(Aug. 2, 1999)

We don't really know what happened at this tournament because we weren't there, but our good friend Randy Small, the basketball coach at Palm Springs High sent us some of the results and a few details about what took place as Los Alamitos beat Artesia 51-46 in overtime at the fourth installment of the Annual Palm Springs Summer Tournaments.  Here's what he had to say:

"Los Alamitos, led by 6'7" Jeff Grgas with 18 points, beat Artesia in the championship game 51 to 46 in OT. Artesia, led by Franklin Matos 14 points, was up by 12 going into the 4th quarter but was outscored 18-6 by Los Al to force an overtime. In the OT Artesia struggled at the foul line, shooting just 2-5 while Los Al went 7-8 to seal the 51-46 victory. In the third Place game, Pasadena, who was led by point Reggie Harmon, beat back a determined Workman team by the score of 55-43. The game was in doubt until the last minute when Pasadena pulled away. The Consolation title was won by Mark Keppel, who beat Antelope Valley Christian 62-61. In another tense game,  Artesia beat Pasadena in the semi-finals 38-35 in OT. In what could only be
called an ugly game, the score was tied at 22 at the half, while the second half saw a battle of turnovers and missed shots and a score of 10-10. Josh
Duncan of Pasadena tied this game up at the buzzer with a tip in off a missed free throw before Artesia pulled it out in OT."
