Idaho Vandals Get
Commitment
From Justin Logan--(Aug. 3, 1999)
How's this for a segue: Visitors to SoCalHoops' message forum in the last few days have seen the debate which is raging about the recruiting of high school players and the respective roles that parents, high school coaches and AAU coaches have, and/or should take in the process. It's an interesting topic, and one that is of vital concern to most players and parents who visit SoCalHoops, and it might even be a subject near and dear to the hearts of a few college coaches. . . If you haven't seen the threads on this topic, you should check them out, as they are worth reading. And among the people expressing their opinions, some eloquently, some not so eloquent, is a parent of a player who was recently recruited, who goes by the name of "Vandal Mom" ; suffice it to say, her son will be playing for the Idaho Vandals this fall.
And speaking of the Idaho Vandals (see, we told you this was going to be a segue), we've just heard from Recruiting USA that the Idaho Vandals have gotten another commitment for this coming season from Justin Logan (6'-0" Sr. PG/SG) from Bishop O'Dowd HS (Oakland, CA). Logan graduated in the spring, played in the Pump California All-Star Classic, and was slated to attend a prep school, not to improve his core grades or test scores, because he was reportedly a full-qualifier anyway, but solely to improve his recruiting exposure. Apparently all that changed with tremendous performances for Oakland Slam N Jam in Vegas and at the adidas EBO/Oaklakd Slam N Jam "Elite Eight" and after playing Thursday and Friday in Berkeley, he was offered a scholarship and committed immediately. Logan is a great shooter, with a decent handle who defends well and with great quickness. He's a big pickup for the Vandals and should get signficant playing time right away.
