Southern California Fall JC
Showcase
Set For Sept 25 & 26--(Aug. 25, 1999)
In case you've noticed a certain dearth of Daily Articles, the reason is that we've been out of town (in Philly, New Jersey and NYC), and we just got back late last night. Our fax machine and e-mail were stuffed to overflowing with messages about players, tournaments, and teams, and among them was an announcement from our friend Dieter Horton of Fullerton College about the Southern California Fall Junior College Showcase which is set for September 25 & 26 at Fullerton College. JUCO events may not seem all that important to many unfamiliar with them, but when you consider how many players get D-I scholarships from JC's (according to the most recent estimates, close to half the available scholarships at the D-I level last year, which was between 1,000 and 1,200 total went to JUCO players), you begin to realize just how important such events are. As with the high school exposure events, college coaches attend the JUCO events during the same "open-exposure" period, and they're busy frantically searching for the top 600 or so top players to fill out the ranks of Division I college rosters, with the other 600 or so generally going to the top high school seniors.
This one will feature some of the best teams in SoCal, including the following top 20:
Fullerton College
Irvine Valley College
Antelope Valley College
Mt. San Jacinto College
Cuesta College
Chaffey College
Riverside City College
San Jose City College
LA Valley College
Glendale College
Santa Monica College
Alan Hancock College
Bakersfield College
Southwestern College
Mira Costa College
Long Beach City College
Saddleback College
College of the Canyons
College of the Desert
College of the Sequoias
Cerritos College
This tournament is being held right at the end of the fall NCAA "open evaluation" period which runs from September 9th through the 26th, so it should be well attended by college coaches and recruiters. Unfortunately, (or fortunately if you can be in two places at once) it will also run concurrently with the inaugural Double Pump Fall Premier Tournament, so coaches will have to split their time between events; hopefully we'll be able to cover them both, but we're not making any promises. Participants in the Fall JC Showcase are 20 of the best teams in California with some of the top players who will eventually make it to the D-I level. All games will start at 10:00 a.m. daily and continue throughout the day and into the evening. For further information contact Deiter Horton at 714-992-7395.
