Marc Jackson Recruiting Update:
Utah Point In Demand--(Aug. 5, 1999)
Marc Jackson (6'-1" Sr.PG) from Olympus HS in Salt Lake City, a tough, solid floor general, is getting a lot of attention from the schools you'd expect a two-sport Utah native to be getting attention from: Utah State, Idaho State, Nevada Reno, Utah, and one which is perhaps not so expected, San Jose State. Jackson has gotten calls from all of these schools, and reportedly Idaho State has told him that he can also play football, as well as basketball if he opts for the Bengals. He's the starting quarterback on his high school team, and would like to be a two sport college player.
So what does the recruiting of a Utah native have to do with SoCalHoops? Well, if the truth be told, not much. Except that we were very impressed with Marc when we saw him at West Coast All Stars during the second session, and in Vegas, where he played with the Utah Titans, a team which also featured Marc Hansen (6'-1" Sr. PG) from Fremont, Christian Hall (6'-5" Sr. SF) from Roy, Utah, Cameron Wood (6'-2" Sr. SG) from Olympus, Danny Young (6'-0" Jr. G) from Olympus, Craig Walton (6'-1" Jr. G) also from Olympus, Garrett Gregson (6'-6" Sr. F) from Salt Lake Skyline, Lance Wallin (6'-5" Jr. F) from Salt Lake Olympus, Nate Harris (6'-4" Jr. F) from Skyview in Smithfield, and Jared Jensen (6'-9" Jr. F/C) from Fremont in Hooper, Utah.
Marc is smart, tough, strong, and quick and he's also got a decent shot out to three point range, and in the games we saw him play in, he was clearly capable of dominating opposing point guards, whether in one on one isolation, or where he's really at his best which is taking care of the ball and making good entry passes to the post players. And we saw him do a lot of that since his team, Phil Bryant's Iowa squad had no shortage of big men (Lee Biddlecome, Jacob Chrisman, Casey Cook, and several other big men), and Marc is one of the best passing guards in the class.
