Noel Felix Finally Enrolls--(Aug. 31, 1999)
We read with interest last week's Fresno Bee story by Andy Katz on the happenings up at Fresno State, including the release by Arkansas of Chris Jeffries, the impending indecision by Tito Maddox (which reportedly has now been resolved when he enrolled at Fresno State this week), but buried deep within the story was a bit of information on the other SoCal prospect from Inglewood High who signed with Tarkanian this past spring: Noel Felix (6'-8" Fr. PF). Like Maddox, there were rumors circulating widely in Southern California that Felix might not qualify. But apparently those proved false.
According to Katz, Noel is now safely enrolled at FSU and participating in the open gym workouts and conditioning which started last week. He's reportedly doing well and enjoying Fresno. "Noel surprised me for being only 17," teammate Terrance Roberson told Katz last week. "He reminds me of Kevin Garnett with his shot-blocking and rebounding skills. He can go up against Melvin and won't back down. He can fill departed Randy Holcomb's minutes and help us rebound. He's not caught up in minutes or scoring." The Bulldogs begin conditioning a week ago Thursday but will play occasionally in the afternoon in the South Gym at Fresno State, so if you're up that way, you might want to stop in and say hello.
