Cameron Dollar Named Assistant
Coach At St. Louis--(Aug. 21, 1999)
This isn't news, but it is to us since we've been out of touch for the past week. But better late than never: Cameron Dollar, who was only recently hired at the University of Georgia by former UCLA and former Rhode Island coach Jim Harrick, has now been named as an assistant to the St. Louis basketball program by former UCLA assistant coach and former Pepperdine head coach Lorenzo Romar, who took the Billiken job this past spring. Dollar is a 1997 UCLA graduate who spent the past two seasons as an assistant at UC Irvine and then as the head coach at Southern California College (which recently changed it's name to Vanguard University). Saint Louis coach Lorenzo Romar was an assistant at UCLA when Cameron Dollar stepped in for Tyus Edney and helped the Bruins win the 1995 NCAA title game. Now, Romar is coach at Saint Louis and hired Dollar to take the place of his top recruiter Derek Thomas.
Congratulations St. Louis and Cameron. Now, can Jim Harrick Jr., who recently was let go by Rhode Island, be far behind in getting some kind of job at Georgia? Who knows, but probably not due to the State's anti-nepotism laws, and besides, Harrick, Jr., has been rumored as coming back as an assistant here in California anyway. Stay tuned.
