Antone Jerrell Recruiting Update:
The Northwest Calls--(Aug. 5, 1999)
This isn't about a SoCal-based player, but about someone who plays for a SoCal-based team: We talked briefly with Antone Jerrell (6'-5" Sr. SG/SF) from Portland Jefferson today, who only had a couple of minutes to spare because he was leaving for a team camp with the Portland Jefferson team to be held at Oregon State this weekend. But in our brief conversation, Antone told us that he's already gotten several calls from Washington, Washington State, Pepperdine, Oregon State and a few others, including some other Pac-10 schools, but that his recruiting is still "completely open." He's got a "wish list" of schools, which include some of those listed above, and Arizona State, Colorado and UNLV.
Antone is an incredibly talented shooter who can either play out on the perimeter, or way above the rim in near the basket. With the Pump N Run Gold team this summer he was often the key to many of their wins, with his solid ability to get to the basket and slash from the wings and finish he's a high D-I prospect. There shouldn't be any question about his qualifying, as he says he's got a 2.5 GPA (3.5 last semester); he hasn't taken the test so to say he's a qualifier is not yet correct; he plans to take the SAT and ACT this fall.
