NCAA: New "Guide For
College-Bound
Student-Athletes"--(Aug. 31, 1999)
The NCAA has recently published an entirely revamped and new design of the "Guide for College-Bound Student-Athletes" and it's now available online here. The latest version also includes a "bonus section" that will be helpful to prospective student-athletes and will also reduce printing and mailing costs, and enable those interested in being recruited to get information quicker and more easily. The 1999-00 guide (which was also mailed earlier this month to NCAA member schools and high-school guidance counselors) includes registration materials that prospects need in order to be processed through the Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. The online version does not include the forms, but does have a number to call to obtain them.
But now that the print version has them enclosed, all high school college counselors with a copy of the book should have the forms available. Previously, those materials had been published and mailed separately, but the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse Committee had asked that registration materials and other Clearinghouse information be included in the guide to make it easier for prospects to register as well as to provide a cost savings for the Association. Also included in this year's edition of the guide are the student release form, information on financial aid, and two question-and-answer segments regarding core-course requirements and the Clearinghouse process. A printed version of the guide is available upon request from the NCAA publishing department at the national office, or you can simply read it online.
