War On The Floor: Day Four &
Five Results,
Final Scores--(July 5, 1999)
Let's see, where did we leave off in our reporting from the War on the Floor when we last posted on Thursday? Oh yeah, we last reported the final pool play scores and then we got the playoff schedules posted for Friday and Saturday's games in the two single elimination brackets.
All of those games have now been played, and the tournament champion has been crowned. In case you really just have no patience and can't wait until the end of this article, we'll tell you who won the whole thing: It was Inglewood, which beat Alemany in the final game73-34.
It wasn't an especially pretty game, and Inglewood just pretty much demolished their two Mission League opponents, first Notre Dame 63-43 (and it wasn't that close for much of the game), and then the Alemany Indians got served up as DeAngelo Collins (6'-9" So. PF) proved that he's probably one of the best rising sophs, if not the best, on the west coast. The final was actually much more competitive than the score would indicate, and if DeAngelo wasn't present, as he wasn't the first time the two teams met in pool play, Alemany might have had a chance. But alas, reality has a way of settling in, and with Collins in the lineup, even not playing his best, it was just too much for the vertically challenged Indians, who have a very nice lineup, but unfortunately no one taller than 6'-1". We'll have more details on the final in a separate article. In the meantime, here's what happened, win/loss-wise, in the remainder of the games in the tournament. We got most (but not all) of the scores in both brackets, and here's what we know happened:
