Day One Results--(July 15, 1999)

Driving across the desert Wednesday night with a full caravan consisting of several teams (Double Pump Gold, Double Pump Black, Inflight, and others) we should have suspected the madness we'd encounter here in Las Vegas when we were met by a spectacular lightning storm, high winds, hail, rain, and a flock of birds which decided they'd hitch a ride on the front grille of our car. . . only problem was that the birds were traveling about 35 mph south, and we were going about 90 mph north. . . oh, well, they made for really interesting hood ornaments which dazzled the valet parking guys at the Luxor. . . And that was just the trip getting here. . .

Yesterday we thought we'd gone to basketball heaven, with games starting at 8:20 and the last ones getting off at after midnight. And we saw some great players and great teams. Of course we didn't see everything, but we did manage to get a look at some of the more impressive teams who were playing at Durango and Green Valley, the two venues where we spent most of the day. We'll have a separate report on some of those players and teams, but first things first: Who won and who lost. Perusing the scores, it seems that the teams from SoCal had mixed results. Some lost two games, some won two, and some split a couple in the first day of pool play. Of course some only played one on Thursday and they'll play two today. Pool play continues today, Friday, and we'll try to get all the scores and the brackets up in advance of Saturday's first day of bracket play when the teams are divided into divisions (Open, A, B, and C), but we're not promising anything.

We also didn't get all the scores from Thursday,` but we do have most of them. Here's what we now know. We'll fill in the rest later:
