Nike National Summer Championships
Set For 7/27-7/30--(July 11, 1999)

We got an announcement yesterday from Rle Nichols of High Five America located on the campus of USIU down in San Diego, about the Nike National Summer Championships.   We don't have time to post all of the information that Rle sent us, but we do know that there will be some pretty good competition from around the country, which will showcase most of the top Nike teams.   We've heard talk that there will be an adidas counterpart event up in NorCal sponsored by EBO/EA, but we haven't talked to Mats about that yet.  Here's what we know about the Nike National Championships and who will be playing.

The event will be the 2nd annual and will, as noted above be played over the period of July 27-30, and this year, unlike last, it looks like the schedule will have the title game played during the open evaluation period so that college coaches can also watch (last year the event ran over into August, so that the coaches never got to see the semifinal game between SCA and Belmont, or the final won by the Illinois Warriors).  Here's who is coming so far:

High Five America (San Diego, CA)
Arizona Stars (Phoenix, Arizona)
Bloomington Indiana Red AAU
Bray Center (Racine, Wisconsin)
Georgia Stars (Atlanta, Georgia)
Houston Hoops (Houston, Texas)
Illinois Warriors (Chicago, Illinois)
New York Riverside Church (New York, New York)
Portland Legends (Portland, Oregon)
Salt Lake Metro (Salt Lake City, Utah)
Southern California All-Stars (Los Angeles, CA)
Sports Express (Los Angeles, CA)
The Family (Detroit, Michigan)

There will be a few more teams added during the next few weeks in order to fill out the 16 team tournament bracket, but this looks like it will be an excellent event, and if you're down that way you'll want to check it out.

See you there.
