LA Watts Summer Games:
Girls' First Round Matchups--(June 10, 1999)

We managed to get hold of the brackets and the first round matchups for the LA Watts Summer Games Girls Basketball Tournament, which gets underway next weekend, Saturday, June 19, and Sunday June 20.  These are sort of tenative, and subject to change, but we have it on pretty good authority that there won't be many changes except perhaps the addition of one or two teams to the bracketing by the time the Games get started.

There are 4 locations, and since this tournament is single elimination it really doesn't much matter which bracket a particular team was placed in because the seeded teams (you'll be able to tell which ones those are) are generally all at different locations.  Here are the tentative first round matchups for Saturday, organized by location:

The basketball tournament for boys and girls are part of a larger games, which are held at more than 21 venues in LA County, covering 18 sports, arts, academics, and entertainment.  They will feature more than 10,000 high school students from more than 250 participating schools during a full month of games and creative events.  Schools from all over SoCal, including schools from Orange, San Diego, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties are participating this year.  Sports involved in the games include Basketball, Cheerleading, Football, Cross-Country, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, Water Polo, and Wrestling.  Of course, Basketball and Soccer make up the bulk of the athletes.

Admission is free, and there will also be a great College Counselling and Career  Expo at LA Southwest College, so you'll want to check that out if you're one of the participating athletes, and even if you're not, you'll want to make it over to LASWC for the rest of the festivities.
