Transfer-Trade Worked Out
Between Taft and Crespi--(June 24, 1999)

Just kidding with the headline. No, there really wasn't any "trading" of players, but we do find it somewhat humorous that Taft picked up big man Gregg Guenther (6'-9" Sr. PF/C) last week from Crespi, and now it appears Crespi is picking up one of Taft's better up and coming players.   Guenther, who is also a pretty big-time football recruit, will now get the chance to play for the defending LA City 4A football champions as well as play a bit of hoops for Taft.    As we reported a couple of weeks ago, Gregg's family evidently moved into the Taft district recently, and his mother also is an assistant principal at the school, so it made perfect sense for Gregg to transfer to Taft for next year, especially with the football recruiting looming perhaps larger than basketball for him.

And yesterday, the LA Times reported that Crespi, which has lost a couple of other players besided Gregg is also picking up a Taft transfer, Kingsley Anyanwu (6'-2" Jr. SG/SF) who played on Taft's 18-0 JV team last season.  We haven't seen Kingsley play, but we've heard that he's pretty talented and we'd expect him to be an immediate impact player for the Celts.  We'll try to get a better look at both Taft and Crespi's newest configurations (and Notre Dame too which picked up another Crespi transfer, Mike Luderer,  as well as a Chaminade transfer,  Ruben Sanchez) next week at the annual War on the Floor Tournament, which will start on Tuesday, June 29 at Pierce College.

See you there.
