1999 Carson Grand Finale
Starts Today--(June 30, 1999)
It's only the end of June and the death march is beginning. Just when you thought there might be a lull before the storm that is called the July "open evaluation period" where NCAA coaches can actually start taking a look at all of the top prospects around the country, comes yet another high school tournament. This one is Issy Washington's Carson Grand Finale, and why it's called the Grand Finale when it really just signals the beginning of the intense recruiting period is probably a mystery deeply rooted in the past. Ah, but we digress. So now there are three tournaments running simultaneously, the War on the Floor, the Artesia Best of Summer Shootout, and the Carson Grand Finale. Pick your spots because it's going to get busy for the next few days.
This tournament has six pools, and many of the same teams participating in the Best of Summer and the War on the Floor are also playing in this one too, so the scheduling will get a bit complicated, especially if you want to follow one or two teams and they are switching back and forth between locations. Here are the pools:
Pool 1 | Pool 2 | Pool 3 | Pool 4 | Pool 5 | Pool 6 |
Dominguez | Westchester | Redondo | Bishop Montgomery | Inglewood | Serra |
Villa Park | St. Bernard | Carson | Long Beach Wilson | West Torrance | Compton |
San Pedro | Mira Costa | Verbum Dei | Lynwood | Washington | Morningside |
?? | Oceanview | Canyon Springs | JW North | Fremont | ?? |
Pasadena and Upland were supposed to be in this one, but for some reason, won't be playing here. The "???" indicate those games (below) where a team will either get a bye or there will be an exhibition game. Here's the schedule for today:
