Best In The West Shootout:
Day Two Results--(June 30, 1999)
Here are the results from yesterday's Best in the West Summer Shootout:
Clovis West 71, Upland 86
Ayala 72, Lakewood 41
J.W North 76, Rosemead 62
Long Beach Jordan 68, Ontario 37
Serra 2, San Bernadino 0 (forfeit)
LB Poly 70, Compton Centennial 57
Redondo 69, Fontana 83
Artesia 97, Harvard-Westlake 54
Dominguez 75, Mayfair 47
Crossroads 88, Bonita Vista 72
Not many surprises among these results, but we sure would have liked to see the Clovis West game and understand how Upland beat them. We understand from our spies that Sheldon Pace and Prentice Harris were instrumental in beating up on Chris Hernandez, who still managed to hit for 25 points himself. Sheldon didn't score a lot but Prentice managed to score about 18 points, and played very well. The Long Beach Jordan game with Ontario was apparently all Travon Bryant, and he reportedly had 18 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots, but hey, this is summer, and Ontario wasn't exactly ready for the good fight yesterday, and they just got clobbered. Don't know why San Bernardino forfeited, but it probably had something to do with the fact that they got absolutely run by Clovis West by 50 points in their first game on Monday, but hey, that's just not an excuse for not showing up. It'll be interesting to see what happens at 1:30 p.m. today as two Inland Empire teams, Upland and San Bernardino are scheduled to play each other, and we hope there's not a lull in the action because we're planning on seeing that game.
