Winslow Hired As New Ventura
Junior College Men's Coach--(May 19, 1999)
It's been more than a year coming, but Ventura City College has finally hired a men's coach for men's basketball team when the program is reinstated after a two year hiatus. You'll recall that Ventura won state championships in 1995 and 1996, but a series of recruiting and other violations by a former coach and several players caused the program to be disbanded the last two seasons.
Now that the program is being reinstated, Greg Winslow was selected Tuesday by Ventura College to become the new men's basketball coach. Winslow has been the coach at San Bernardino Valley College for two seasons. In a press release issued by Dick James, Ventura's athletic director, the school said: "[Winslow's] skills as a coach, his aspirations for our program and his charismatic approach in working with our faculty and community will, over time, allow Ventura basketball to be successful again."
Now all they need are some players.
