USC Signs Kosta Charissis From Greece--(May 4, 1999)
Ok, so no point guards want to sign with USC. Well at least not Marlon Parmer. So USC is going for all big men in their recruiting class. In addition to signing 7'-3" Luke Minor, the Trojans have now signed Konstantinos Charissis, from Greece, to a National Letter of Intent. The signing was formally announced by USC yesterday, and here's the brief and to the point press release published by the Trojan media folks:
May 3, 1999
Los Angeles - Center Konstantinos Charissis from Athens, Greece, has signed a letter of intent with USC, men's basketball coach Henry Bibby announced today."We're excited to bring in Konstantinos, a young player from overseas," Bibby said. "He's got good potential and will add solid depth to our inside game."
The 6-foot-11, 240-pound Charissis played for the club team Papagou-Athens. He will enter USC as a freshman.
The Trojans are still looking for another point gaurd to give some relief to Brandon Granville, and we'd expect them go very hard after Marcus Moore now that Marlon has committed to New Mexico. In addition to looking for a point guard, the Trojans will have one more (or a total of 2) additional scholarships to offer for next year's class, and we'd expect them to use them all before next season starts.
