UCSB Completes Recruiting
Class By Signing Jordani--(May 5, 1999)

No, that's not Michael Jordani, but Juliano Jordani, a 6'-7" Brazilian forward.  We want to thank Bill Mahoney for letting us know that UCSB now has a new website for athletics (we've also updated our links) and when we visited there today, we discovered that UCSB had signed yet another player.  Here's the official press release from the UCSB Official Athletics website:

UCSB Completes Recruiting Class With Signing Of Junior College Forward  6-foot-7 Brazilian Juliano Jordani Completes Gauchos' Outstanding Recruiting Year

Juliano Jordani, an All-Region forward out of The College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, ID, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at UC Santa Barbara, head coach Bob Williams announced today.

Jordani, a 6-foot-7, 235-pound post player, averaged 13.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Southern Idaho. He helped lead his team to a 21-12 overall record and an appearance in the JC Regional Championship Game. He was the only Southern Idaho player to earn All-Region honors and, in addition, he earned All-Tournament recognition for his efforts in the postseason.

Jordani, who is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was a member of the Brazilian Junior National Team and he is also a skilled outside shooter. Last season he nailed 20 three-point baskets, hitting 31.0% from beyond the arc. As a freshman, he made 48.3% of his three-pointers. Overall, Jordani made 47.0% of his field goals as a sophomore and 61.3% of his free throws. As a freshman, he averaged six points and five rebounds per game.

"Juliano is big, strong and physical with a tremendous shooting touch," said Williams. "He is exactly what we need to fill the role of the four-man in our system. He has the ability to be a factor both inside and outside. His experience on the Brazilian Junior National Team gives him a seasoned, veteran game. Juliano has more experience than two junior college seasons alone would have given him."

Jordani joins a frontcourt that will return 6-foot-9 junior Adama Ndiaye. In addition, UCSB will add a trio of redshirts, including 6-foot-9 sophomore Mike Vukovich, 6-foot-6 freshman Eric Hare and 6-foot-9 junior transfer Ross Carmichael. In the early recruiting period, the Gauchos signed 6-foot-11 J.J. Todd out of Chaminade High School.

The signing of Jordani completes UCSB's recruiting class for the 1999-2000 season. In all, the Gauchos signed five players and added Carmichael (who transferred from Texas Tech). In addition to Jordani and Carmichael, UCSB signed prep guards B.J. Ward and Nick Jones of Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, 6-foot-11 forward J.J. Todd of  Chaminade High School of West Hills and junior college All-State guard LaRon Bryant out of American River College in Sacramento.
