Whither Spencer Gloger? Princeton,
Oregon, Or UCLA? Who Knows--(May 22, 1999)
According to Jim Downs, UCLA continues to recruit 6'-6" Spencer Gloger from Santa Margarita HS. But Downs also reports, "Gloger seems to be getting cold feet with the Kapono signing, but could still end up a Bruin." This is directly contrary to what Tracy Pierson is reporting, which is that Spencer has committed to Princeton, thus spurning both Oregon and UCLA. And apparently they can't agree on Spencer's height either. Here's what Tracy wrote at PacWestHoops Friday: "6-5 Spencer Gloger, Rancho Santa Margarita Santa Margarita, has opted to go to Princeton instead of UCLA and Oregon, according to sources. It has yet to be officially confirmed by either Spencer or the Gloger family, but many different reliable sources claimed he had accepted a scholarship offer to Princeton this afternoon."
We don't really know which version is correct and we'll try to reach Spencer over the weekend to see if we can get the word directly from Spencer or his family (but we're not making any promises). But given that the UCLA official website is completely silent on Spencer, and we seem to have already passed the 14 day deadline for signing and returning the National Letter of Intent that Spencer was supposed to have received from the UCLA coaching staff, we'd have to say the odds favor him going to either Princeton or Oregon rather than UCLA
