Slam-N-Jam Spring League Semis
& Finals This Saturday--(May 5, 1999)

Both Bob Gottlieb, who coaches the BWBA travel team, and Frank Burlison in his weekly column published today in the Orange County Register, reminded us that Issy Washington's Slam-N-Jam Spring League will play its Semifinals and Championship games this Saturday, May 8, 1999 at the new Lynwood High School gymnasium.  If you haven't seen it, you ought to check it out because it would make lots of college coaches envious.  The gym is located at 4050 Imperial Hwy., about four blocks west of the Long Beach (710) Freeway.

In the first semifinal game, Dart Stamps' Top Prospects (TPI) of Los Angeles, which includes some great players, including one of the best shooters in the class, Tommy Johnson (6'-4" Jr. SG) of Crenshaw and Jason Morrisette (6'-4" Jr. SG/SF) of Fairfax, in addition to some really fine younger players like Chad Bell (7'-0" So. C) from Westchester, and Keith Everedge (6'-4" Fr. SF) will take on QBL of Lakewood, which is basically the entire Artesia High team (with a couple of additions) including Artesia sophomores Jack Martinez (6'-7" So. F) and Amaury Fernandez (6'-9" So. F). The game will be at 11:30 a.m.

Branch West Academy, which has had a solid spring and is led by Brett Michel (6'-6" Jr. SG/SF) from Simi Valley High, along with brother Shaun Michel (6'-2" So. PG), will face the San Diego Future Stars (which we think will have Nick Booker (6'-5" Jr. SG/SF) from La Jolla Bishop's School.  That game will get going at 12:45 p.m.

The Championship game will be held at 4:30 p.m.
