BWBA: Three Top Prospects To Attend
Prep
School: McGowan, Dow & Taylor--(May 4, 1999)
McGowan, Dow & Taylor. Sounds like a law firm or a stock brokerage. It's not. Bob Gottlieb of Branch West Basketball Academy, wrote us this morning by e-mail to let us know that three of SoCal's top prospects are now working with him, and they will be attending prep school next year. "With improved academics, they will continue to be top Division I prospects," Bob wrote. The three players are:
1. Glen McGowan (6'-7" Sr. SG/SF) from Venice HS, a very tough, athletic power player who can dunk, drive and finish or pull up for the jumper out to three point range, and who averaged close to 27 points per game for the Gondoliers. Glen was offered early last fall by Eastern Washington and several other schools, but needs first to improve his academics;
2. Tony Dow (6'-1" Sr. PG) from Ocean View HS. Tony is a very strong, quick and talented point guard who had a breakout season as a junior, who also found himself needing to work on his academics. Tony is also the son of the well-known and respected Orange County referee Zellie Dow, who resides in Buffalo, New York;
3. Misha Taylor (6'-6" Sr. SG/SF) from Santa Monica Crossroads. Misha is a tough, hard-nosed, talented player, very physical and actually also a very good soccer player who was injured for most of the season (Misha reportedly had a stress fracture in his back and missed all but a few games of his senior year). Misha scored a 1270 on the SAT and has a 3.2 GPA, and his goal is to be recruited to Columbia in the Ivy League in order to pursue a major in film and philosophy.
Bob didn't let us in on which prep schools these guys will be attending, but we're extremely glad to hear that Glen McGowan, one of the nicest young men around has finally decided to go that route and preserve all four years of college eligibility rather than take the juco or Prop.48 route. We're looking forward to hearing good things from all of these guys in the next year and look forward to continuing to follow their recruiting at the D-I level.
Bob's BWBA is also more than just a couple of teams and an instructional basketball academy; for years, Bob has been instrumental in placing players with schools on a national recruiting level and also knows as much about the Eastern prep school route as anyone on the West Coast. If you have questions about the recruiting process, or you are a coach looking for a player to fill a spot at the D-I, II, III or NAIA level, Gottlieb can be reached at (714) 997-0380, or you can write to him at BWBA, 380 S. Liberty Way, Orange CA 92869. Better yet, you can also reach him by e-mail at BRWest2@aol.com, or you can visit the BWBA website.
