San Fernando Valley LA Times City
Section vs.
Southern Section All-Star Game--(April 14, 1999)
Today's LA Times carried the announcement and a small look at the rosters for the Times' sponsored 2nd Annual "Battle of the Valley" All-Star Game, which will be held again at Cal State Northridge in the Matadome (which is CSUN's version of a pretty nice gym but with not as much seating as might have put into the place had somebody been planning ahead). The game, which will feature teams from the Southern Section and the LA City Section (but only consisting of players from the Valley area, and not the City) for both boys and girls will square off on May 1. The games will feature some pretty good players, including several who will play Division I ball next year. The girls' game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and the boys' game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
The Southern Section boys' team, will be coached by Dick Dornan of Crespi and will feature many players from the Mission League, including Cayce Cook (5'-10" Sr. PG) from Chaminade, J.J. There will undoubtedly be others on the rosters at game time, but the Times' story today only listed these players for the Southern Section team.
The City Section boys' team will be coached by Adam Levitt
and James Morris, co-coaches at Cleveland, and they will bring along recent D-I signee
Kent Dennis (6'-3" Sr. SG) who committed to West Virginia. Also playing from
Cleveland will be Kenny Mason (5'-11" Sr. SG/PG), Eric Bush, and Brian Smith.
The City Section team will also feature George Wrighster (6'-4" Sr. SF),

for the City will include James Word from Poly, Nana Gbewonyo (6'-6" Sr. SG/SF) from
Kennedy, and Richard Harrison (6'-3" Sr. SG/SF) from Chatsworth.
In the Girls' game, the Southern Section girls' team will have Damaris Hinojosa (Moorpark), who has signed with Pepperdine, Omelogo Udeze (Harvard-Westlake) Pepperdine, Christine Lambert of Paraclete, Kelly Paige of Crescenta Valley and Briana Kentfield of Hart, Mari Myllykoski of Royal and Mania Houspian of Glendale.
