adidas Double Pump Easter Tournament
Final Day Results--(April 11, 1999)

The Michigan Mustangs won the adidas Double Pump Easter Tournament Championship game today, by defeating host Pump N Run I, 64-62.  It was a great game and a ton of fun to watch. Well, it would have been more fun to see the Pump guys win, but not even Branduinn Fullove's last minute heroics with a huge three point shot to close the gap to just two points with only 4 seconds on the clock were enough this time.  Sure the Mustangs will be scary when they get the rest of their players, including Robert Whaley (6'-9" So. F/C) from Benton Harbor and Johnny Davis (6'-11" Jr. C) from Central, but even without those two, the Mustangs are a pretty tough team and will be one of the favorites this spring and summer, especially at the Vegas Big Time, which they won last summer.

All the last games were played today at 4:30 p.m., and it was somewhat hard to watch some of the action since there were three games going on all at once, even for the finals, and they were all pretty good.  On the main court was the big championship game between Pump N Run I and the Michigan Mustangs.   On court 1 (which is not the main court. . . that's court 2) was EBO v. Friends of Hoop Orange for third place; and on court three was QBL (Artesia) v. BWBA I.  Quite a selection of games.

Like most people we focused our attention on the Main Court action, occasionally checking out the side courts when we heard or saw a huge slam.  Actually, if you've never attended one of these events, it's sort of like being in a casino full of crap tables.  The action is always pretty heavy on each court, and occasionally you'll hear a huge roar from one of the other courts, sort of like in Vegas when someone at another table rolls the point number.  And with DeShawn Stevenson at one end of the building,  and Amaury Fernandez and Jack Martinez at the other end, the roars at either end of the building  happened more than a few times today.  Of course they also occurred with some frequency on the main court, where Aerick Sanders, Lou Wright, Branduinn Fullove, Jonathan Sanders, Antoine Durrell, Derrick Craven, Wesley Stokes, Doyle Cole for the Pumps and the Mustangs were playing. Man, can Desmond Farmer hit the three.

We don't have the energy or the inclination right now to write much about the game or the players in it, and we'll have a separate report on that later.  For now, here are the scores and results from the finals.
