Marlon Parmer Recruiting Update:
Will He Or Won't He?--(April 29, 1999)
Well, according to the last word from Marlon Parmer (6'-3" Sr. PG) from Verbum Dei, tonight is supposed to be the big night, when Marlon will announce whether he will attend USC, UNLV, the University of Michigan or possibly New Mexico, which got into the recruiting race late. The announcement is supposed to be made tonight by Marlon at the Warehouse Shoe Sale Scholastic Hoops Jam banquet, which will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Torrance Hilton. We'll try to make it out there and will report what we learn, if anything. We haven't talked to Marlon since the Dada Classic two weeks ago, so we don't know if Marlon has changed his mind about making the announcement tonight, but when we last spoke he told us unequivocally that he planned to announce tonight.
So will he or won't he? Who knows. If he does, we'll let you know. If for some reason, he delays his announcement (What! Unheard of! A 17 year old chaning his mind! No way!), we'll also know that tonight.
When we spoke with Marlon two weeks ago, he had just returned from Michigan and he had only three schools he was considering: USC, UNLV and Michigan. Since then, reports have surfaced that he visited New Mexico early this week, and since we haven't talked to him we can't comment on how serious Marlon really is about the Lobos. The first reports of New Mexico's interest surfaced only this week on LoboBasketball.com, and apparently, Marlon enjoyed his visit with Fran Fraschilla, but whether it was enough to get him to consider the Lobos is something we'll find out soon enough.
LoboBasketball.com has reported that "Marlon's uncle has publically stated that Marlon had already made up his mind, between Michigan and UNLV, and that the trip to New Mexico was his chance to use his last visit. Parmer's uncle also went on to say that Marlon had made it clear to the Lobo coach that he had already picked a school before visiting New Mexico. Parmer contradicted his Uncle last night by stating that he 'will choose between four schools, New Mexico, Michigan, USC and UNLV.' "

Again, we will all, allegedly, find out tonight who Marlon will play for next season. Or we won't.
