Kareem Rush Will Choose
A School Next Week--(April 18, 1999)
We actually got quite a bit done today: Before the Dada All-Southern California game at 3:00 p.m. at Pauley, we had a chance to talk with Kareem Rush (6'-6" Sr. SG/SF) from Pembroke Hill Academy, and actually it wasn't just with Kareem, but also with three-fifths of the starting lineup from two years ago for the traveling AAU team known as the CMH 76'ers. Actually, we found ourselves sitting on the end of the Bruin bench with Kareem, brother Jaron, and Earl Watson, and we we were all hungry and so we went looking for the hospitality room. Little did any of us know, it hadn't been set up yet, so our search was in vain, but we spent a little time talking about schools, and what was on Kareem's mind. "I haven't gotten much sleep. I'm not going to decide this week. I'll wait until next week to make a decision," Kareem said. When Jaron asked if Kareem was going to stay at UCLA for another day to play in some pickup games, Kareem just shrugged his shoulders, smiled and said "Man. . . I'm tired."
So now we all know two things: (1) Kareem was tired from his flight out to LA, and (2) we won't find out any time soon whether it's going to be Missouri or UCLA. Earthshaking. Astounding. But at least we now know.
Oh, and for what it's worth, Earl said he's happy at UCLA and that everything is fine. As for Jaron, he didn't say, and we didn't ask.
