Ohmigod, Jim Harrick's Gone
Insane. . .
Now He Will Be A Bulldog--(April 1, 1999)
We're going to stop reading the newspapers all together. Something very odd about reading reports written on April 1. Either Jim Harrick has the wickedest sense of humor, or we've all been had. Big Time.
At about 2:30 p.m. today, all the wire services and ESPN were saying that Jim Harrick had changed his mind about taking the Georgia coaching job. He was going to stay in Rhode Island.
Now, ESPN is reporting that Harrick as again changed his mind, and will accept the Georgia job.
Sheesh.
Apparently Harrick hesitated about taking the Georgia job because Georgia has anti-nepotism laws which would have prevented him from hiring his son, Jim Jr., as an assistant. But his son talked him into taking the Georgia job. And ESN also notes that Harrick's indecision was the second time in three years that a coach embarrassed Georgia by accepting a head job and then changing his mind. In December 1995, Glen Mason was hired from Kansas to coach the football team but changed his mind days later and returned to the Jayhawks. Dooley then hired Marshall coach Jim Donnan, who has led the Bulldogs to consecutive top 15 seasons. Mason left Kansas the following year after a 4-7 finish.
Apparently Jim, Jr., wasn't too worried about getting a job on his own. Maybe he'll apply for the Pepperdine job. Or maybe the Rhode Island opening. If there is one.
