Kent Dennis Close To Decision
On West Virginia--(April 6, 1999)
The LA Times, not usually the best source for recruiting news, says that Kent Dennis (6'-3" Sr. SG) of Cleveland High, an all-City guard, visited West Virginia last weekend and is close to committing to the Mountaineers. Kent averaged 24.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists last season to help Cleveland (21-5) win the West Valley League title and advance to the City quarterfinals.
Kent is a vastly underrated and under-recruited shooting guard, named to the All-City team, and who was clearly overlooked on the All-CIF State team. He's mobile, has great touch from outside, and can score in bunches.
Kent transferred to Cleveland from Bell-Jeff in his sophomore year after playing with (and somewhat in the shadows of) Ruben Douglas, now at Arizona, and would probably stay on the West Coast if offered by some of the Pac-10's, at least in our opinion. Kent was nominated this year as a McDonald's All-American, and has most recently has been playing with the Pump N Run All-Star team in the Rockfish League. Kent is also scheduled to play in the April 24th adidas-Double Pump All-California All-Star Classic boys' game at Cal State Dominguez Hills, and will probably also play in the Annual Times Valley All-Star game, although we haven't actually received confirmation on that one.
We'll be speaking with Kent shortly to confirm whether it will be West Virginia or elsewhere.
