A Few More Dada Changes. . .
The Ronalds Get Added & A Few More--(April 13, 1999)

We were attempting to recover from basketball overload yesterday and get back to work, when Dino Trigonis called us to remind us to put some stuff up about the Dada, including the material which Phil Gatton, the event's Media Coordinator sent us. Well, we posted up some stuff that Phil sent us, but we just plain forgot to post the new rosters for the 3:00 p.m. Southern California game which Dinos told us about. That game, which will feature a "Blue" and "White" team, each of which will consist of all-SoCal players, will be played this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion and will precede the game between the U.S. All-Stars v. West All-Stars.

Sure we've posted up the rosters for these games before, but there have been a few changes, including the addition of Ronald Jackson (5'-10" Sr. PG) from Dominguez to the Dada White team, along with Ronald Johnson (6'-5" Sr. SG) who could be just about the most under-recruited shooting guard anywhere.  Johnson hit for 40 points in the Rockfish Marlins game on Saturday against IEBP in the RSL playoffs, so you know he can really light it up when he gets hot. Also added to the roster of the Dada Blue team is Willie Johnson (6'-4" Sr. SG/SF) from Fresno Edison. Also added is Joseth Dawson (6'-2" Sr. SG) from Fontana (that's right, his name is spelled with a "th" at the end, but everyone just calls him Joe). Finally, another addition is Glen McGowan (6'-7" Sr. SG/SF) from Venice High School in L.A. a great shooter and a wonderful young man, who originally had several offers from some mid to low D-I schools in the fall, but who elected to wait until the spring for better, but all of that may have been for naught because he probably won't have the necessary GPA in the core classes.

On that subject, we know that Mike Miller wrote about Glen recently over at Pac-West Hoops, to the effect that Glenn is fully qualified (meaning he has at least the minimum GPA and the ACT/SAT scores for freshman eligibility) but we had a long talk with Glen on Saturday evening at the Rockfish playoffs, and so we're kind of surprised that Mike would write that Glen is fully qualified, because that's not what Glen told us. It seems Glen has not yet taken either the SAT or ACT, and his GPA in the core subjects is just on the borderline, and so there's some question whether he'll ultimately be a full qualifier.  Assuming that he did make it, then we absolutely agree with Michael that Glen is a wonderful shooter, very athletic and deserving of at least a mid D-I offer somewhere.  It seems more likely though that Glen will either go to prep school or a JC, most likely LACC if he goes the junior college route.

But back to the Dada games: The Dada All-Star Classic is going to be held Sunday, April 18th at Pauly Pavilion. Tickets are $8.00 and $6.00 for students. The Southern California game is at 3:00 p.m. and the U.S. v. West game is at 5:00 p.m.  Two games for the price of one.  What a bargain.   Seriously, these are games which are going to be really fun, and you won't want to miss them.

Here's the revised, completed roster for the Dada White and Dada Blue teams.  And as the game approaches, like everything else in the basketball world, there may be even a few more changes.  Comparing it with a prior roster, it looks like Shantay Legans won't be there, and if what we hear is correct, he'll be appearing at Chris Rivers' Slam-N-Jam All-Star event the same day up in the Bay Area.

The reason there's one more player on the Ble than the White is because Nate Hair is still injured, recuperating from knee surgery and won't be playing.

We'll have more on this later.  See you there.
