BCI Arizona Spring Tip-Off Tourney
Will Feature SoCal Teams--(April 1, 1999)
In addition to the Nike Las Vegas Easter Classic taking place this weekend, and more games in the Rockfish Spring League on Saturday, there is yet another event which will feature several high school-age boys teams from SoCal. The BCI Boys' Spring Tip-Off Tournament will take place at 14 different locations in Phoenix this weekend (Friday April 2 through Sunday April 4). There will actually be three separate BCI Arizona Tournaments this weekend, one for boys, another for girls, and there will also be a 40 player JUCO Girls Review Tournament. According to tournament director, Louise Martin, in the divisions other than JUCO, 143 teams will participate - 96 Boys teams and 47 Girls teams raging in ages 12-17. The event is NCAA sanctioned and we'd expect some college coaches to be in attendance as the open-evaluation period begins again today.
In the High School boys Division 36 teams will compete in pool play the first two days. On Sunday the final championship rounds take place. Some of the teams in the boys' high school division include from SoCal include Total Impact, coached by Sam Alipio, and Inflight Elite coached by Mike Livacarri. From Oakland the Oakland Hotshots will be there, as well as teams from all over, including Colorado Superflow, the Arizona Stars, Utah Select, WA Friends of Hoop, Tucson Heat, NV Jam On It, El Paso Wildcats, and many others.
