Marlon Parmer: The Penultimate
Recruiting Update--(April 30, 1999)

For those of you who are etymologically challenged, we'll save you a trip to the dictionary: "Penultimate" means "next-to-last" and yes indeed, this will (if everything goes according to plan) be the next-to-last recruiting update for Marlon Parmer (6'-3" Sr. PG).

Why?  Because he plans to announce his college choice tonight on the John "The Coach" Kentera Show on XTRA 690 Sports Radio.

We just got off the phone with Marlon, and he told us that he and Ken Miller, one of the WSS Scholastic Hoops Jam organizers will both appear on the Kentera show.  Marlon told us that he's going to make the announcement and then he'll play tomorrow night.

And no, he didn't tell us which school he's going to pick.  But he did say that he's down to three schools.  Three. Not four.

For those of you who've been paying particular attention to Marlon's recruiting, you know that he originally had three schools on his list prior to this week:  USC, UNLV, and Michigan.  Then this week, he visited the University of New Mexico. He really liked it.   So four schools were on the list and in the running.

But when we spoke with him about 10 minutes ago, Marlon was quite clear: He's down to just three schools.  Three.

So that means that one of the four is now out of the running.  But hey, what difference does it make which one it is (we happen to know but we're not telling. . . see,  we can keep a secret) because in less than five hours it won't matter at all anyway, because he can only pick one school.

If you want to listen to the announcment, you can tune in AM 690 if you're in SoCal, or you'd better have your own copy of Real Audio's player (get the latest free version, it's excellent) and then tune in to XTRA Sports 690 at 11:00 p.m. tonight if you're anywhere else in the U.S., especially Michigan, Las Vegas, or New Mexico.
