Marlon Parmer: No Show &
No Decision. . . Yet.--(April 29, 1999)
We attended the WSS Scholastic Hoops Jam banquet tonight (which was held at the Torrance Holiday Inn, not the Hilton as we had originally been told) and it was no surprise to us that Marlon Parmer (6'-3" Sr. PG) from Verbum Dei didn't make it to the dinner as he previously announced.
We weren't surprised because our friends in New Mexico alerted us (by cell phone as we were driving to the banquet) that Marlon had decided to hang out a bit longer than anticipated in New Mexico with Fran Fraschilla & Co., taking in all that New Mexico had to offer, and was still in the air, flying back to LA as we spoke. We also heard thatr Marlon's plane didn't leave on time, and his mother, who had been planning to meet the plane and bring him to the banquet, obviously had to change the schedule. The plane didn't make it in with enough time to spare, so Marlon missed the banquet (and we'll have more about that in a little bit).
But fear not, we do have some news:
We spoke with a member of the Parmer family (actually it was Marlon's sister) after the banquet by telephone and confirmed the following:
1) Marlon was, in fact, in New Mexico on an official visit which lasted through late this afternoon;
2) Marlon flew back to Los Angeles and is now at home;
3) Marlon really enjoyed his visit at New Mexico "a lot";
4) Marlon has not made any decisions yet about where he will sign;
5) Marlon is still considering four schools, USC, UNLV, Michigan and now New Mexico;
6) Marlon will decide "really soon" and will make an announcement within the next week, possibly this Saturday at the WSS games.
And that, quite simply, is the sum total of our knowledge of what Marlon intends to do. Again, only time will tell, and we're not making any predictions.
