CIF State Final Division IV: Verbum Dei &
CBS Stats: Dalron & Parmer Dominate--(March 22, 1999)

By now everyone knows the final score of the game between Verbum Dei and Christian Brothers for the Boys' State Division IV Championship. . . but in case you missed it, Verb won 74-63, and we have Pat McKinney's feature story from the game with a blow by blow description of this great overtime contest in which Verbum Dei outscored Christian Brothers 14-3 in the overtime period to win their second consecutive Division IV State crown.

But studying the stats is always helpful to understand who really did what in the game (or at least who had the big numbers and who didn't, because frequently there are things players do that never make it to the stats sheets, and we've also come to suspect that the official stat-keepers for the state regional and finals don't really know a block or an assist (although they did credit Rashawd Cobbs with 5 of the latter, a game-high). Anyway, here are the stats for the game, preserved for perpetuity in cyber-space (or for at least so long as we decide to keep archiving articles, which is indefinitely for the time being). Congratulations to Verbum Dei and coach Greenwood on the second state title. And with Parmer and Dalron, Nick Dodson, Washum Dashiell and Ricardo Suazo graduating this year, we can only wonder what the team will look like next season. . .
