division 3 southern regionals

Here are the first round matchups in the Southern Regionals for Division III in the State Championship Tournament. All first round quarterfinal games will take place this coming Tuesday, March 9. All games are played at 7:30 p.m.

This is yet another example of the what might be the silliness of Division III at times, at least in our opinion. Why? Not because we think it's likely that Chaminade and Corona del Mar could replay each other less than a week after they met at the finals of the Southern Section at the Pond, but if hell freezes over, or if DeShawn Stevenson, Shammel Stallworth, Coupe Taylor and the rest of the D-I players at Washington Union don't show up on Tuesday, and if Chaminade can beat St. Augustine (which is a lot more likely than hell freezing over or Washington Union not beating CDM), it actually could happen again. Who was the genius who planned this one? How difficult would it have been to seed Chaminade and USDHS in opposite, but different brackets? Notice something disturbingly familiar? Remember that wonderful 8 team bracket in the Southern Section playoffs, and how it turned out. Chaminade v. Corona del Mar. Oh well.

Actually, this division does have some of the most intriguing matchups, including Bishop Montgomery at USDHS and St. Augs at Chaminade. And if Chaminade can get through St. Augustine and Washington Union (remember that game at the Double Pump MLK Hoops Festival that was originally planned but never happened? Well this could be it), then they'll potentially get USDHS again, provided the Dons can get through Bishop Montgomery (a dicey proposition at best with all the firepower the Knights have) and the winner of the Exeter v. San Dimas game. But hey, only time will tell right?
